Ada’s Fish House Landscape Design
Location: Pismo Beach, California
Date: Completed 2025
Project Type: Landscape Design, Landscape Construction, Landscape Detailing & Layout, Fountain Design, Paving Design, Native Planting Design
Contexto Landscape Design collaborated with Atom Architects and CAPS Fabrication to redesign the exterior spaces at Ada’s Fish House, creating a hospitality-focused outdoor dining environment rooted in the restaurant’s coastal identity. The design balances branding, local context, and operational needs while providing a flexible space that adapts to seasonal changes, special events, and daily service.
Drawing inspiration from Pismo Beach, the landscape uses natural materials and soft coastal colors to create a welcoming and modern atmosphere. Natural wood elements reference the nearby pier, while stone surfaces reflect the tones of the surrounding bluffs and shoreline. Pastel fabrics and finishes reinforce a relaxed seaside character that appeals to both locals and visitors.
The layout includes a variety of seating options, ranging from intimate dining areas to communal tables that encourage social interaction. Climate-responsive elements such as shading, wind protection, and integrated planting ensure comfort throughout the year. A central water feature provides a visual focal point and helps soften the sounds of the busy downtown setting.
Coastal plantings were selected for their durability, low maintenance needs, and year-round color, complementing the restaurant’s brand while thriving in coastal conditions.
In addition to the landscape design, Contexto Landscape also completed construction of the exterior spaces, ensuring the design intent was carried through from concept to completion. Through close collaboration with Atom Architects and CAPS Fabrication, the project delivers a cohesive and inviting outdoor dining experience that enhances Ada’s Fish House and its connection to the Pismo Beach community.
